Some exciting news!
I'm writing two new books for Harlequin Historical! They're about two women heading West as mail-order brides after surviving the Great Chicago Fire, the first accepting a surprise offer from a man she once battled with when she was engaged to his cousin, but now living out West and struggling to prove himself to his new town. I'm currently wrist-deep in research and plotting. Publishing dates TBA, but I suspect sometime in 2013.
Also, I've been working on a secret project! I've been having an amazing time researching an era I've never written before (Victorian London) in a genre I've never written before (Young Adult). The book is finished, and has just been contracted by Holiday House Publishers! Publishing date TBA, but I suspect 2013.
Here's the official announcement: Kate Bridges will be writing as Kate Maddison in THE INCREDIBLE CHARLOTTE SYCAMORE, a steampunk mystery about a 16-year-old girl living in Buckingham Palace, daughter of the Royal Surgeon to Queen Victoria, wanted for high treason when, unbeknownst to her father, she secretly trains herself to become a 'Robin Hood' surgeon, stealing medicine and knowledge from the rich to treat the poor - along with a band of teenage friends and first love.
So what exactly is steampunk? It's historical fiction, mixed with some fantasy/paranormal elements, and gadgets powered by steam. That's all in the background, though, while my characters and their story take the focus. If you like my historical romance novels, I suspect you'll enjoy my YA books, too, because they have the same feel - lots of adventure, characters I find interesting to write about, and romance, too!
Readers have been emailing and asking about my Charlotte book - so I decided to open a Facebook Author Page for my new YA pen name, Kate Maddison. I'll be adding all the news here, if you'd like to find out more!
Kate Bridges' novels are all stand-alone books. You don't need to read one to follow the other. But you just may bump into a character or two you might recognize from a previous novel!
